As her husband, South African playwright Athol Fugard, becomes increasingly frail, writer Paula Fourie attempts to understand the passionate intellectual and physical bond between them.

Spanning several years, the searching force of this collection is the attempt to understand the nature of love between a young woman and an older man. Written in English, Fourie's distinctive Afrikaans voice grounds the poems in the physical and intellectual world the couple lived in - this is poetry of the earth and the body as well as of the mind.
