This flexible and compact course for intermediate-advanced level students brings together a multitude of diverse literary extracts to create a thorough overview of Italy as a whole. Like fragments of a kaleidoscope, each text reflects a specific aspect of Italian life which together create a vast and detailed window on Italian culture and society.

'Caleidoscopio italiano' is ideal both for self-study and class-based teaching. The texts are arranged into six thematic units, each complete with a variety of exercises to develop students' linguistic skills. The first four chapters cover the following broad topics: language and linguistic trends; geography, landscapes and cities; people and society; and food, habits and popular culture. Chapter 5 is a focus point on emigration and immigration and how this has shaped the Italy we see today, while the final chapter looks at the contemporary cultural phenomenon that is: 'il giallo'.
