Our Mutual Friend is the last finished novel by Charles Dickens that was written and published in 1864-1865 (no other novel took him so long).

The novel contains several bound storylines, and the main one is the fate of a heritage of a garbage man from London, Harmon. This gloomy miser, who had made his fortune due to municipal contracts, kicked his 14-year-old son John out of the house and hasn’t seen him since. According to the will, the son will come into an inheritance if he marries a woman he has never met, Bella Wilfer, and if this marriage doesn’t take place, the heritage will be passed to an old Harmon’s servant, Noddy Boffin.
