Mark E. Stille (Commander, United States Navy, retired) received his BA in history from the University of Maryland and also holds an MA from the Naval War College. He has worked in the intelligence community for 30 years including tours on the faculty of the Naval War College, on the Joint Staff and on US Navy ships. He is currently a senior analyst working in the Washington DC area. He is the author of numerous Osprey titles, focusing on naval history in the Pacific. He is also the author of several wargames.
Howard Gerrard studied at the Wallasey School of Art and has been a freelance designer and illustrator for over 20 years. He has worked for a number of publishers and is an associate member of the Guild of Aviation Artists. He has won both the Society of British Aerospace Companies Award and the Wilkinson Sword Trophy and has illustrated a large number of books for Osprey. Howard lives and works in Kent.

Історія важливої битви за Тихий Океан
Книга "Мідуей 1942 р." написана відомим спеціалістом з військової історії Марком Стайллом, який є автором цілого ряду відомих у світі праць із історії Другої Світової війни і його праці вже є певним знаком якості у своїй галузі.
Описані у книзі події розгорнулися в 1942 р. після першого переможного удару японських сил на американські бази на о.Перл Харбор на Гавайях. У цей час сили Японії ще були у своїй повній сили і у битві біля Мідуею ще важилася доля усієї війни на Тихому Океані, коли японці ще могли здобути перемогу. Так що тут ми не маємо цієї повної розпачу боротьби із нерівними силами, яку вела Японія уже в наступні роки. Тому у цій битві було справжнє крайнє напруження сил обох сторін, а тому події розгорталися драматично і тим цікавіше! У цьому плані прочитати публікацію про цю битву дуже цікаво!
У книзі гарно висвітлено розгортання військових дій у 1943 р. на приготування обох сторін до вирішальних зіткнень. Тут показано не лише військову сторону приготувань, але і політично-організаційний їх бік. Далі розписано сили сторін, описано окремі важливіші кораблі флотів, дано характеристику літакам. Також роз'яснено стратегію та тактику обох армій, особливості підходів командуючих, їх військові плани.
Далі описуються уже самі події руху флотів, а після цього головне - саму битву докладно розглянуто по всіх боях усіх військових одиниць флоту.
У книзі є вся необхідна інформація про ці події та оснащення війська. Все дуже докладно згруповано і структуровано. Читається текст гарно,не поринаєш у ніяку плутанину, але попри це все на конкретних фактах і без лишньої "лірики".
Особливо треба відзначити ілюстрації - це і фото портрети командуючих, і фото подій, і фото кораблів. також є і цікаві естетичні кольорові малюнки. А особливо вартісними тут є карти та плани військових дій, рухів кораблів і бортової авіації.
Таким чином всім раджу прочитати цю дуже вартісну публікацію!
