The story of Lale Sokolov has moved and impressed me deeply. It took me just 3 days to read 300+ pages. I could not just stop reading till I have finished it. I know I am not the first one to ask the question – How could something like that happen at all? Now it is history. An incredibly sad page of the humankind’s history. And it is especially important not to forget what has happened during the World War Two. I am grateful to Lale who managed to share his story with the world. As I read it, I got goosebumps on my skin all the time. I really admire Lale and his strong personality. He decided he would survive at any cost. And he did everything to achieve it. I also admire all the people from the camps, who supported each other, who helped each other, who shared the last piece of bread with those who needed it most. Millions of people have not survived the hell of Nazi concentration camps. But still some people have survived. Lale and his beloved Gita were among them. And Lale kept the promises he made to Gita when they were in Auschwitz – they got out of the hell alive, they got married, they got a son and enjoyed life together to the fullest. I was so happy to learn they emigrated to Australia and began their life from scratch there. It was especially interesting to read some thoughts of Lale’s and Gita’s son, who shared warm memories about his parents. Once when their business failed, he noticed his mother was doing something and singing. He wondered and asked her, how could she sing knowing, they were bankrupt. And she answered: As long as we are alive and healthy everything will work out for the best. I learnt this phrase by heart. I would like to remember it every time I complain about something in my life. This story reminded me that we should be grateful for everything we have. To appreciate people around us, to be kind to each other, to support each other in need. To appreciate every moment of life. I greatly appreciate to read this book to everyone.

"The Tattooist of Auschwitz" одно из лучших произведений что я читал в своей жизни. Скажу сразу, оно очень сложное в эмоциональном плане, ведь тема, которую затронул автор одна из самых болезненных страниц в книге истории человечества - беспредельная жестокость, на которую способен только человек, жизнь в концлагере, и на фоне всего этого надежда, как тонкая нить связавшая судьбы людей. Главный герой попал в концлагерь и твердо решил выжить, несмотря ни на что - ни на голод, холод, издевательства и постоянную угрозу быть расстрелянным по дороге на очередную работу. И вот его заметили, теперь он татуировщик, и именно когда главный герой Лалли наносил тату на руку Гиты, он понял, что влюбился в нее... Благодаря своему положению, Лалли сумел достать продукты и тайно раздавал заключенным, но однажды кто-то сдал его... Это неимоверная история - душещипательная, трогательная, горькая. И все это история жизни, реальная история. В книге есть еще и фотографии Лалли и Гиты, и карта концлагеря. Я советую эту книгу всем и каждому.
