Атмосферна історія, яка, мені здається, серед усіх книжок серії "Ожиновий живопліт" найбільше сподобається дітям, адже тут є не лише затишок і тепло, а й загадка, таємниця. До того ж йдеться в книжці про свято, а хто ж не любить свята. Маленькі герої-мишенята в пошуках костюмів для виступу на родинному застіллі знаходять приховані двері, а за ними - таємні східці. Куди вони ведуть? Виявилося, що дуже в давню частину замку, сховану всередині великого дерева. А там стільки всього цікавого! Одяг, іграшки, давні меблі. І хай воно все припало багаторічним пилом, але ж від того не стало менш цікавим. Хто з нас не мріяв у дитинстві про потаємний сховок з різними цікавинками, куди можна потайки пробиратися з друзями, грати і оберігати від інших. Героям цієї книжки саме так і пощастило. І читачі разом із ними теж побували в такому загадковому закапелку.

The book is much smaller than I expected. The smooth paper makes it pleasant to turn over the pages. Due to heigh detailing of the drawings, it would be better to have it printed on bigger pages. By the way, the book contains a lot of splendid drawings made by a talented author Jill Barklem (which is the main reason why we purchased it). Those drawings make the story cosy and breathtaking. The main plot tells us about a small family of mice who is going to have a celebration. Most of the story based on the great adventures of two youngest members of the family who are involved in preparations in the most unexpected way. The thing is, traditionally all the extended family members are gathering together in the evening and some of the members present different entertainments during the gathering. Unfortunately, the storyteller of the evening had lost his voice and there was no other option than to ask those little members to take his responsibilities. During their rehearsal, children found a mysterious staircase which leads to an abandoned room. Whether they managed to perform a story and what was there in the room you may find out by reading this wonderful book. For those who have fallen in love with the story and the atmosphere, there is a short cartoon named the same as the book is. We enjoyed reading and watching this beautiful and kind fairytale.
