Postcards as a medium of correspondence became popular in the early years of the twentieth century. This soon became a flood as hundreds of thousands of postcards found their way into the postal system as the Edwardian era progressed. With the outbreak of the First World War in August 1914, it was only natural that the sending of postcards would spill over into the battlefields of the Western Front and Britain’s Home Front.
