Journalist Paul Haydn is on his way home at last, to New York and the civilian life he has longed for after years of war. Yet he can’t forget the desperate refugees flooding into Berlin, those who have survived the horrors of global conflict only to be faced with a new threat, a sinister presence creeping across Europe from the east. Back home he soon realises that the same malevolent forces are at work; former colleagues are revealed to have dangerous political sympathies and someone is trying to destroy the woman he once loved.
