Лівацька пропаганда

Книжка про те, як багаті не дають жити бідним. Не впевнена, що ми не можемо обійтися без таких книжок після того, як Маркс і Лєнін написали цілі бібліотеки. Оскільки книжка була в списку рекомендованої літератури для екзамену з культурології, я очікувала дізнатися щось з галузі культурології та антропології, а не зіткнутися з лівацькою пропагандою. Цієї пропагандою мене безкоштовно годували в садочку й школі. Не варто витрачати гроші, щоб такого наїстися.

Варто взяти до уваги, проте якщо ви не знайомі із урбаністикою, тоді краще взяти щось простіше.

Книга гарно описує процеси в великих містах та передмістях, які навколо них сформувалися, автор як професійний аналітик і соціолог підкріплює опис процесів купою статистичних даних, котрі будуть цікаві небагатьом. Саме в такою непопулярною й більш науковою аргументацією своїх думок автор підкріплює і пояснює процеси в містах. Погано що до наших міст ця книга має невелике відношення. Але мушу підкреслити що книга змогла багато чого пояснити хоч і в такий непростий спосіб.

Більше наукова робота, ніж популярна книжка

Книжка чималенька, але основна проблема, яка розглядається - одна, хоч вона і названа в тексті різними термінами: джентрифікація, економічна сегрегація, міста для еліт. Тобто нерівномірний розподіл сучасних великих міст за соціальним статусом їхніх мешканців. На думку автора це тягне за собою багато інших проблем. Коли різними словами неодноразово йдеться про одне й те ж - це, як на мене, "вода", а її найменше хочеться бачити у сучасному нон-фікшені. Але звісно, радує те, що у автора справді напрацьовано багато матеріалу, є багато цікавих прикладів, він може більш-менш образно виражати свої ідеї. Та все ж таки, навіть якщо подивитися курс урбаністики на Прометеусі, там проблеми сучасних міст розглядаються набагато ширше, повніше і стисліше. У мене склалося враження, що це не науково-популярна, а більше таки наукова робота, коли автор ґрунтовно занурюється в одну проблему, наводить щонайповніші факти і статистичні дані на підтвердження своїх слів. Це добре, звичайно, але це не завжди цікаво і доступно для широкого загалу.
