When in discussions about Ukrainian literature and the Ukrainian publishing movement it is often said that we do not provide anything to the so-called world literature market, such accusations are full of misunderstanding and naivety, not to say ignorance of those who make these accusations. Firstly, because no one has yet set out a recipe for what world literature is, and it does not exist, just as there is no world religion, world art, or world politics - all attempts to create something like this are either weak or artificially maintained confessions, such as the United Nations. Secondly, even with great imagination and optimism, we have to admit that the so-called world literature could include the works of the best writers, poets or playwrights of individual nations, hence - pictorially speaking, - the most magnificent flowers from different cultural backgrounds put together in one tassel, and Ukrainians could have put their flowers in this tassel long ago, if not for the sometimes special formalities and even greater difficulties of a people struggling for the most normal living conditions of other nations. And finally, to be in the tassel of the so-called world literature is a kind of luxury.
