Ruta Makoviy, the heroine of Halyna Petrosaniak's debut novel, finds herself in Switzerland and unwittingly becomes an accomplice to something she considers a crime. For Ruta's Swiss colleagues, however, there is no question of a crime: in their world, such things have long been routine... Different worldviews collide in this novel. The fundamental concepts that we consider unambiguous suddenly become threateningly bifurcated, forcing the heroine - and the readers along with her - to seek precise answers: what is dignity, where are the limits of freedom and dependence? There are several motifs in the novel: illness and old age, love and music, the dramatic combination of good and evil in a person.
