The Ukrainian Chronicle for Schoolchildren is a historical epic novel that covers the period from the third century BC to the end of the eleventh century AD. Consistently, year by year, together with the characters of this work, we learn about the events that took place in our lands in those distant times.

The first book tells about the construction of the Zmievy Vales, the creation of the Antean state headed by Bus, the legendary founders of Kyiv - the brothers Kyi, Shchek, Khoriv, and their sister Lybid, and the activities of Kyivan Prince Askold . This story tells about the reign of Oleg, his campaign against Tsargrad, and the strange death predicted by the magi from the Ros River.

After Oleg, the Kyivan throne was taken by Ihor, during whose reign Pechenegs appeared near the borders of Rus. We will learn about the destruction of the Russian fleet by Greek fire, about the war between Princess Olga and the Drevlyans, and about the changes Olga introduced in the country. Together with her, we will travel to Tsargrad and see the customs and wonders of the Byzantine imperial court.

Some pages of this story are devoted to professional warriors from the Ros River and how they taught martial arts to the young Prince Sviatoslav. Svyatoslav's military campaigns and battles in Bulgaria reveal his courage and natural talent as a commander . He baptised Rus, united it, and began building border towns.

The main character of this story is the prince of the Free Rosychi, Atanas, who, from a teenager to a grey-haired grandfather, has gone through all the historical paths of the difficult tenth century.
