Before you is a magnificent edition of "Ukraine. Poetry of a Thousand Years." Such book unicums usually have a limited edition, belong to the number of gift, are intended for presentation at the highest level. The design of the two-volume book is in the same spirit: gold embossing, cardboard case, coated paper on which the unique texts are printed.... In this magnificent two-volume book the compilers have made an attempt to present to the reader the most complete panorama of the origin and development of Ukrainian poetry in the chronological period from the remnants of the Proto-Schumerian epic to the poems of the Ukrainian sixties. In Ukraine, poetry occupied a special place because it did not just "amuse" the reader, but also encouraged Ukrainians to struggle, defy oppression, call for self-knowledge and creativity. In addition to its entertaining function, it had another one: power-creative. This two-volume book presents both famous and little-known poets of all times, many poems were banned for publication, and therefore little known to poetry lovers.
