Rudolf Taschner's elegant book is dedicated to the eternal theme of human existence: what gives us vitality, determines our actions, and helps us to make plans for the future? In modern everyday life, there seems to be no room for reflection on fundamental ideas and principles, no time to think about what makes a person human. At the same time, many people prefer to stop for a moment to finally realise the uniqueness of their own existence. In these rare moments, questions arise that are usually swallowed up in the storm of everyday life: what is the basis of our existence? What is still worth believing in? In the past, the obvious answer was religion, which was the foundation of humanity. Today, everything is much more complicated...
The mathematician and natural scientist, a man of universal erudition, Rudolf Taschner offers ten suggestions: what else can we believe in today, what gives people support and what we should hold on to with all our might - love, logic, or, for example, nature. What about God, the church, history, pleasure, the environment, art, the future, and finally, belief in yourself? The author "walks" through each of these propositions easily and naturally, in accessible language, with sophisticated humour, referring us to philosophical areas free of dogma and established beliefs, offering an intriguing vision and interpretation of historical facts and well-known sources, in particular, some places in the Bible.
The reader of our country, which stands at a geopolitical and historical crossroads, should heed these valuable tips to become a conscious, intelligent, self-confident modern Ukrainian of the twenty-first century.
