After many years of operation with Arriva Trains Wales at the helm, May/June 2018 saw the issue of a new franchise to KeolisAmey. Their successful bid to run Wales and Borders Railways was based on an ambitious plan to deliver a sea change on that country’s railway network over the next five years or so. Their headline plans include: - Replacement of virtually all existing rolling stock over that period together with, not surprisingly, a complete new corporate identity. - The management of the South Wales Metro project through to delivery. (Keolis have experience in the UK with both Docklands in London and Manchester’s Trams). - Wide sweeping changes (improvements) to service frequency across the whole country with some new stations and routings planned.
