Є books that create the «effect of presence». Mar’yan Ostrovsky's memoirs belong to such books. The author was not a professional writer, but he was able to vividly and accurately convey the atmosphere of Stanislavov in the last quarter of the XIX century. It is a pity that after the gymnasium Ostrovsky left Stanislavov and his writings are limited only by his school years.
