The publication is a thematic continuation of the previous work by Prof. B. B. Shalaginov «Classics and Romantics. Studies on the History of German Literature of the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries (2013) and contains articles, each of which, being devoted to a separate literary phenomenon or a specific work, is subordinated to a common idea: to reveal the German literature of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries as a single historical and aesthetic process, characterised by a constant cultural and aesthetic dialogue with previous eras, a constant orientation towards the postulates of idealistic philosophy, a synthesis of literature, philosophy and other arts, a keen sense of national and cultural identity, and a belief in the immutability of the principles of humanity.
