We perceive a huge amount of information through our ears. Not the least role in this is played by technologies related to radio waves, including radio. The invention is more than a hundred years old, we were born when radios were present in our everyday life, and we do not consider these devices to be something out of the ordinary. Nevertheless, the history of radio broadcasting, and Ukrainian radio broadcasting in particular, is extremely interesting. Not only was it in the shadow of television for a long time, but the history of Ukrainian radio was written under Moscow's influence and Soviet censorship. And, with a few exceptions, it has not yet been told in popular science from a Ukrainian perspective. The author traced the path that our radio has travelled against the backdrop of an entire era: from optical information transmission to FM broadcasting, from primitive detector receivers to smartphone applications, from the first "radio newspapers" to our modern realities.
