Olga Tokarchuk tells the stories of three women, each of whom has had to face death. Each of them accepts and realises it in her own way: through grief, denial, and care. All of the characters travel, either voluntarily or forcedly, because modern man remains an unrooted creature. And even when they find their tiny corner somewhere in the suburbs or on a distant island, Tokarchuk's characters realise that there is no end point. As long as we are moving, we are alive.
