Lesia Ukrainka is a Ukrainian writer, translator, and cultural activist. She wrote in the genres of poetry, lyrics, epic, drama, prose, and journalism. She also worked in the field of folklore and took an active part in the Ukrainian national movement.
The songs were recorded by Lesia Ukrainka in 1901 during a holiday in the Carpathians.
