About book

This is an automatically translated description

The Ukrainian edition of the monograph by the famous Polish sociologist, Professor Dariusz Wojakowski is devoted to the topical issue of the correlation between territorial borders and mental borders in Europe.

The author develops and deepens modern approaches to understanding the nodal aspects of the general discourse of European identity in the context of geopolitical changes and transformational shifts of the last two decades, raises the question of the presence and correlation between territorial and mental borders, giving an answer in favour of preserving the territorial borders of nation-states and the corresponding mental dimensions, despite the growing trends towards globalisation and cosmopolitanisation in modern Europe. The starting point for the Polish scholar is the sociological and anthropological approach - an attempt to look at global, continental and local changes from the perspective of social groups and microstructures within the borders of European states, especially Poland and other countries of Central and Eastern Europe. According to Dariusz Wojakowski, the formation of a "Europe without borders" has significantly changed the perception of borders, but they continue to play not only the role of factors that outline the boundaries of state entities, but also determine mental, identity-based distinctions of national character in a multi-ethnic European environment. The monograph is one of the options for answering the question about the nature and nature of the changes that are taking place in Europe and with Europeans on the basis of the construction of new dimensions of identity in the light of modern transformational, integration and globalisation processes.

For sociologists, historians, political scientists, philosophers, Europeanists, internationalists, as well as anyone interested in the theory and practice of European integration.
