The historical novel by Bohdan Lepkyi «Mazepa» consists of five parts.

Although they consistently reproduce the chronology of events, each of them has an independent meaning.

The main character of all five novels is the Ukrainian Hetman Ivan Mazepa, whose ultimate goal of policy was to establish the statehood of Ukraine.

The story «Baturyn» tells about Mazepa's final choice to join the Swedes in the fight against Peter I and the capture of the tsarist troops of the hetman's capital Baturyn.

Bohdan Lepkyi's contribution to the Ukrainian literary heritage is difficult to overestimate. His unsurpassed works "Motrya", "Flower of Happiness", "Poltava" and others, about 30 collections of poetry, as well as journalistic articles, children's fairy tales and poems have become a real heritage of Ukrainian culture.
