The Sorrowful Elegies and Letters from Pontus, written in exile (translated into Ukrainian for the first time), brought Ovid a sincerely human, lasting fame, which echoed in the works of many European poets, including Shevchenko's Kobzar. It is thanks to The Sorrows that Ovid has become a symbol of the exiled poet for all time.
