Our society is built on the caste system – everyone takes his place in it. Although today people have the right to choose and the possibility to become what they want, it has not always been so. Since ancient times people have been divided into classes. It's been going on for thousands of years. More than that, today in many countries there is a clear distinction between the poor and the rich, the powerful and the powerless, and what can we say about the poor countries?

Besides race, classes and other factors of division of the society in the world there is a powerful and at the same time invisible caste system, which affects not only the behaviour and share of ordinary people, but also the whole nation. However, there is hope for a way out of this situation. In her book the author proposes her own ways of solving the global problem of injustice and separation of people.

About the author:

Isabel Vilkerson – American journalist and author of the bestseller «The Warmth of Other Suns: An Epic History of American Migration», which was named one of the best books of 2010. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drawing.

What is this book good:

  • Describes the caste system of America, India and Nazi Germany and draws parallels between them.
  • Discloses the whole truth about the hierarchy of the society, which was created in pieces and is favourable only for certain groups of people.
  • Wilkerson examines the multiple bases of caste systems in different civilisations, including religion, bloodlines, social stigma, and so on.
  • From the book you can learn how races and castes are similar, but why they are not the same.
  • Included in the list of Oprah Winfrey's backlist of books in 2020 (Oprah’s Book Club 2020)
