About book

This is an automatically translated description

"Yo-Ke-Le-Me-Ne" is a collection of short biographical stories by contemporary Ukrainian author Natalia Kalchenko. Each story will make you smile, be surprised, fall asleep with laughter, or even remember your own childhood adventures. You will be delighted by subtle irony, a sea of childlike love and some real, almost forgotten miracles. For a wide range of readers.

"55 Stories from Childhood by Natalia Kalchenko is a warm to the touch and very lively treasure book: 186 juicy pages about strawberry, book, dandelion, adventure and honey summers in the countryside. And not only summer, but a whole colourful life, in the midst of which there is a sour cream commotion, big snow, the navel of foreign lands, a tall silkworm, a deep August bottom, a cheerful apricot pervak, fly catchers, herbaria in books, flying chairs, a radiol without a coat, yesterday's borscht, and a lot of love. And even if summer eventually ends, the memory of it never ends. Because everything important always lives quietly somewhere under our hearts and warms us even in the most severe frosts and darkest times. Because we all need a little sunshine and goodness. Because we all come from a childhood where the trees are tall and life is carefree and happy. Because we all need stories to recognise ourselves in them, to remember our own and to heal our souls a little..." Writer Slava Svetova.

"Natalia Kalchenko is a cunning author. She seems to lure you into her own funny and touching memories, but in reality you risk falling for this trick 55 times and, putting the book on your stomach, remembering your own. Instead of Cherkasy, you'll see your town, instead of Natalia's village, you'll see your own village, her grandmother will speak in the voice of your grandmother, and well-placed melon-flavoured chewing gum (it was Turbo!), fur coats, cots and beds with a net will create the full effect of a time machine. It's not fair, of course, but it's fun! For a long time, we, who were born at the end of the twentieth century, thought that we were so different that we could not be moulded into a generation. But no, we are a generation. And this book is about us." - writer Yevheniia Kuznetsova
