The monograph is devoted to the study of the history and dynamics of the development of phonetic, word-formation, semantic and grammatical characteristics of the adverbs of place in the Ukrainian language of the XI-XVIII centuries. The work describes the process of adverbialisation as the main source of replenishment of the adverbial system and identifies models of their creation in different periods of language development; groups adverbs of place according to their word-formation, morphological and semantic characteristics throughout the entire period of their development; highlights the peculiarities of the formation and functioning of adverbs of place of different patterns of creation in the formal and grammatical aspect from the Indo-European period to the modern state of the language.

A detailed analysis of the semantic dynamics of locatives during their formation is presented; the grammatical properties of the studied group of words are described; a comparative and contrastive analysis of the different states of the lexico-grammatical class of adverbs of place in the Ukrainian language is carried out.

The linguistic analysis is based on manuscripts and old prints, as well as published texts of the XI-XVIII centuries of historiographical, artistic, business and confessional styles. Materials of lexicographical works (normative, dialectal, historical, etymological of Ukrainian and other Slavic languages), scientific articles are also included; 8000 word uses selected from about 90 sources are analysed.
