About book

This is an automatically translated description

The author's literary provocation has already made a lot of noise, even though no one has seen the book itself. Colleagues, artists, psychologists, politicians, writers, and many other discerning readers have come to comment on the fragment from the yet-to-be-published book.

«My book, like the TV show, should evoke emotions, strong and contradictory, – says Olya Freimuth. – And so that you can both learn and have fun, like in a game. However, in addition to fun, in this gift edition you will find serious advice from etiquette expert Natalia Adamenko.

In Bully Etiquette, published by SNOWDROP, the main character, like a character in B. Shaw's Pygmalion, changes herself and her life and tells how she does it. The author mixes funny, sad, truth and fantasy under one cover to keep readers entertained. She is looking for controversial answers to the questions of how to quench emotions, get sick, cry, get married and look good, and at the same time love yourself and your neighbour.

«This book was written for myself. Because there is an etiquette for everyone, and these are personal rules that I make up and break. So, sorry for the extravagance, but what you read, do not literally repeat at home," the author warns. – Read as you look at Degas's paintings, so that after contemplating his «Dance Class» you want to make love, not ballet.

Topic

Coaching, psychology of relationships, auto-training.

About the book

The book is a version of Olga Freimuth's ironic rules of good manners. Despite the fact that, from the experience of ethics, etiquette and some unwritten laws, good manners, given the history of culture, are often different for women and men, women offer their own rules of the game in life: personal, professional and social. This is not a game of beads, not a game of classics, but not coaching for kids either. The book is by no means a correctional colony, no one is forced to do "one way or the other". So, in fact, there are no commissaries, and the concept of beauty is a separate ritual. Perhaps you will reach a new level of the game if you break the rules of comme il faut in a subtle and beautiful way. As Byron bequeathed: once upon a time, people created manners, now manners create people. The truth of this book is also that there was a saintly woman who was the first to wear trousers instead of a skirt, who threw off her fears of looking crazy and gave other women the right to do as she did. The publication is illustrated with reprints of the pages of the textbook «Friend» for students of institutions that educated noble ladies in nineteenth-century Ukraine.

Who is the book for

For a wide range of ladies and gentlemen with a sense of humour and self-irony.

The spice of the book

In her book, O. Freimuth answers the rhetorical question: are ladies born or do they become? The author of Etiquette is a brave person, like a scientist who experiments in the laboratory and experiments on herself. It is not only art and science that find it difficult to accept the imperfections of human nature and this world. The characters in Mrs Freimuth's School are not as serious as the venerable experimenters in Bernard Shaw's story, but if the classic described the rituals of transforming a flower seller into a duchess, it was not without reason. The classic story of Eliza Doolittle is eternal, no matter how literary it may seem to some. And it continues to this day.

Quotes from the book

"As a child, I wanted a goat to live with us so much, and my grandmother agreed right away. She settled him in her apartment in a cosy kitchen near a Chinese porcelain cradle. She, like me, was a careerist, married three times, loved, and for some reason, she always had March on her calendar."

***

"It all starts with childhood and family. If you knock before entering your child's room, your child will not enter your room without permission. The best way to raise a child is through love and your own example."

***

"Set a goal. Write a step-by-step plan. For example, to become a countess of Lemkivshchyna. First step: get rid of what prevents you from feeling like a countess. Get your feet waxed. When you dance the polonaise, shaggy legs will become an obstacle. Next, ask friends, neighbours, the British ambassador if they happen to have the phone number of the Earl of Kent or Yorkshire. When you have contacts, arrange a meeting with the aristocrat. Make him fall in love with you. And invite him to live in Stryi."

***

"Take a day off. Don't take a shower. Don't brush your teeth. Dishevel your hair. Put on a coat over your pyjamas and go for a walk. You don't have to wear shoes. Go for tea with someone you are normally shy of. A boss, a colleague, a boyfriend, Svyatoslav Vakarchuk - whoever your bare feet will take you to."

***

"Ask your loved one to listen to you eat. Sometimes it's so delicious that your teeth crush the food like the Bolsheviks destroyed Podil shrines. Chew smoothly. Silently. Do not slurp. One of my relatives is a beautiful woman, but she reminds me of a storm at tea time. She drinks so loudly and persistently."

***

"Combine millions of things at once. Go to university, listen to lectures online, work out your gyrus and abs. If you want, work as the president of the country and feel free to get pregnant. You have one life to live. The only one. You don't want to be left with a cat on your lap in your old age."

Snowdrop Publishing House was founded by Olga Freimut in 2018. «Mrs Freimut's School: ETHICS» is the second book published by her publishing house. The first snowdrop was the fairy tale for children «Jean the Bat».
