240 years have passed since the birth of Ivan Petrovich Kotlyarevsky, a classic of Ukrainian literature, author of the famous Aeneid. Even the contemporaries of the author of the Aeneid perceived his work as a kind of textbook of folk life, a wide panorama of Ukrainian life and customs. And rightly so - Kotliarevskyi borrowed only the plot and the names of the characters from Virgil's classic poem, but his main source of inspiration was the reality of his time and completely new creative techniques. Generous humour, expressiveness and utmost sincerity are what made the Aeneid a truly folk work.
