"The Mirror of the Sea" and "Personal File" are collections of autobiographical essays by Joseph Conrad. The Mirror of the Sea includes texts devoted to the maritime period in the writer's life. Reflections on seafaring and extensive descriptions of winds and waters are combined with anecdotal and dramatic episodes and observations of human characters. The overarching motif is nostalgia for the seafaring of the sailing era, which has become a thing of the past. "Personal File" refers to the writer's Polish childhood, touches on the themes of patriotism and loyalty, and tells of his first steps on the way to the British Navy and British literature. Both works are published in Ukrainian for the first time.
