Marko Kropyvnytskyi was a prominent writer, playwright and actor of 19th-century Ukraine. He once gave up his legal career for the theatre. He was one of those who revived Ukrainian theatre after the ban was lifted in 1881. Kropyvnytskyi's texts have been published since 1882.
