"The Black Cat" is a short story by Edgar Allan Poe.
This is an analysis of the consciousness of a person suffering from guilt, as in another Poe's work, "The Tell-Tale Heart". In both of these stories, the murderer carefully conceals his crime and believes himself invulnerable, but eventually breaks down and reveals himself.
